Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) have long served as the foundation of moral and leadership education for Muslim students in Indonesia. However, rapid social changes, the influence of digital culture, and the decline of direct interaction between teachers and students have weakened leadership formation among santri. This community service project (PKM) aimed to improve the leadership quality of santri through a structured workshop program emphasizing self-awareness, teamwork, and decision-making. Using a participatory training model over six months at Pondok Pesantren Mambaul Ulum Jambi, the program combined motivational lectures, simulation-based learning, and reflective discussions. The results showed a marked improvement in students’ leadership confidence (by 40%) and responsibility in managing religious and social activities. Moreover, santri demonstrated better communication and initiative in organizing collective events. This finding highlights the potential of leadership workshops as a sustainable model for integrating character education and leadership training in Islamic boarding schools.
