Pengelolaan Sampah Sekolah melalui Program Bank Sampah untuk SD/MI
Main Article Content
Abstract
Waste management issues in elementary and Islamic elementary schools (SD/MI) often receive little serious attention, which impacts school health, aesthetics, and the environment. The School Waste Bank Program was introduced as both a practical and educational solution to raise environmental awareness, reduce waste volume, and integrate the concept of fun learning into classroom activities. This study aims to enhance teachers’ and students’ understanding of waste management, establish a school waste bank unit, and train teachers to design environmentally based learning strategies. The implementation method consisted of three stages: preparation (coordination, initial surveys, and preparation of learning materials), activity implementation (socialization, teacher workshops, establishment of the waste bank unit, and waste-saving practices), and evaluation and follow-up (pre-test and post-test, activity monitoring, and recommendations for sustainability). The results indicated a significant improvement in teachers’ understanding of fun learning and their ability to design lesson plans (RPP) integrating waste bank activities. The program reduced inorganic waste volume by approximately 30–40% within two months, while students became more active and enthusiastic in hands-on learning. Furthermore, questionnaire results showed that 90% of teachers and students considered the program beneficial, engaging, and worthy of continuation. In conclusion, the School Waste Bank Program functions not only as a medium for waste management but also as a tool for character education, strengthening fun learning, and fostering an environmentally conscious culture in schools. This program has the potential to be replicated in other schools as an environmental education strategy supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
