Abstract
This study aims to improve teachers’ competence in designing experiment-based formative assessments in science learning at elementary schools and madrasah ibtidaiyah. The research employed an action research approach with two cycles involving 25 science teachers from several elementary schools in Jambi City. The research instruments included observation sheets, competency tests, and teacher response questionnaires. The results showed that the training successfully enhanced teachers’ ability to design experiment-based formative assessments, with the average competency score increasing from 64.2 (fair category) in the pre-cycle to 82.7 (good category) in cycle II. In addition, 88% of the teachers stated that the training was highly beneficial in developing authentic assessment skills. Therefore, this training was effective in improving the quality of science learning based on students’ scientific thinking skills.
